چکیده
The aerodynamic optimization method was presented to design a propeller airfoil for stratosphere airship at low Reynolds numbers. delta class and shape transformation were adopted describe the geometry as variables. flow field calculated by an open-source code XFOIL obtain characteristics targets. separated particle swarm employed algorithm. case started with typical number E387 obtained thicker more cambered using proposed method. fields of optimized initial airfoils analysed CFD. Results suggested that lift-to-drag ratio changed from 35.7 45.9 increasing rate 28.5% cruise condition. overall performance has been significantly improved both off-design conditions within wide range attack angle. platform here is efficient effective low-Reynolds-number designs.

Aerodynamic Hysteresis of a Low- Reynolds-Number Airfoil
L OW-REYNOLDS-NUMBER airfoil aerodynamics is important for bothmilitary and civilian applications. The applications include propellers, sailplanes, ultralight man-carrying/man-powered aircraft, high-altitude vehicles, wind turbines, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and micro air vehicles (MAVs). For the applications just listed, the combination of small length scale and low flight velocities re...
متن کاملUnsteady Aerodynamic Performance of Model Wings at Low Reynolds Numbers
The synthesis of a comprehensive theory of force production in insect flight is hindered in part by the lack of precise knowledge of unsteady forces produced by wings. Data are especially sparse in the intermediate Reynolds number regime (10<Re<1000) appropriate for the flight of small insects. This paper attempts to fill this deficit by quantifying the time-dependence of aerodynamic forces for...
متن کاملUnsteady aerodynamic models for agile flight at low Reynolds numbers
The goal of this work is to develop low-order models for the unsteady aerodynamic forces on a small wing in response to agile maneuvers and gusts. In a previous study, it was shown that Theodorsen’s and Wagner’s unsteady aerodynamic models agree with force data from DNS for pitching and plunging maneuvers of a 2D flat plate at Reynolds numbers between 100 and 300 as long as the reduced frequenc...
متن کاملAerodynamic loads on cactus-shaped cylinders at low Reynolds numbers
Direct numerical simulations of flow past cactus-shaped cylinders are performed at Reynolds numbers of 20, 100, and 300. The results are contrasted to those from smooth cylinders at the same Reynolds numbers. The cavities in the cactus-shaped cylinders are seen to reduce the forces acting on them. At Reynolds number of 20, the drag is reduced by 22% due to reduction in the viscous forces. At Re...
متن کاملVortex Mode Bifurcation and Lift Force of a Plunging Airfoil at Low Reynolds Numbers
Force and supporting particle image velocimetry measurements were performed on a plunging NACA 0012 airfoil at a Reynolds number of 10,000, at pre-stall, stall, and post-stall angles of attack. The lift coefficient for pre-stall and stall angles of attack at larger amplitudes showed abrupt bifurcations with the branch determined by initial conditions. With the frequency gradually increasing, ve...
